Tinea Corporis Caused by Microsporum Canis Infection which Occurred Among 12 Women Living Together

Abstract

|
In Korea, numerous cases of Microsporum canis infections were reported since 1957, and its incidence is thought to keep on increasing nowadays by many investigators. M. canis infections are characterized clinically by high infectivity, and a large proportion of them was occurred explosively among the family members.
Recently, we experienced tinea corporis occurred among the 12 young women living together, all of them showed several scattered pea to thumb-tip sized erythematous scaly patches on the trunk, extremities and so forth, and they had had close contact with a domestic kitten and a infected dog. We examined the patients and the dog, and by the mycologic study, the causative fungus was identified as M. canis.
